book  club  Guide

January 2025

Introducing… the Manor Of Book Club! The first thing either of us ever wants to talk about when we see each other is what book we are reading. We have both sat through many of the other’s book pitches and have spent countless hours recapping and reading book analyses to each other that we decided we might as well start our own book club, with outfits inspired by what we read, of course. Here are three of our favorite books that we have read over the past couple of years that we knew we wanted to include in our first-ever book club post!

Everything I know about love

Dolly Alderton / Non-Fiction, Memoir

Reading “Everything I Know about Love” not only makes us reminisce about the era of Indie Sleaze (that unfortunately, we were just barely old enough to truly be apart of) but also makes us feel so seen in a time where it seems as if dating has never been more impossible. Dolly Alderton somehow masters the chaotic voice of dating while keeping a very realistic and non-judgemental attitude towards her younger self and anyone else who may relate to her and the antics she gets up to. Also, if you have not yet watched the TV adaptation of this book on Peacock you are seriously missing out. In honor of this messy girl aesthetic and in rebellion to all the clean girl tutorials that have overflowed our feeds, we decided to create a modern take on Indie Sleaze.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night

Carissa Broadbent / Fiction, Fantasy

If you have also found yourself readying all the fantasy smut books that seem to have taken this country by storm recently, you will absolutely love this series by Carissa Broadbent. For fans of ACOTAR and Fourth Wing, this series has everything you want in a fantasy series; good banter, inspired world-building, and a strong female lead bringing us plot twist after plot twist. Not to mention the third book in this Crowns Of Nyaxia series was just released in November so once you fall in love, you have the promise of two other books to binge-read. We can admit that when we read these books we have often found ourselves dreaming of dressing as one of these characters at a Renaissance Faire, so to curb these cravings we have come up with an everyday take on the fantastical looks described in the books!

Women Don’t Owe You Pretty

Florence Given / Self-Help

One thing that is always agreed on by Ryan and I is that “Women Don’t Owe You Pretty” is not only one of our favorite books of all time but a must-read for every woman in their life at some point or another. This book was gifted to both of us (me from a roommate of mine during my college graduation and then to Ryan from me during her own college graduation). This book is an eye-opening feminist take for any woman feeling overwhelmed by the trials of womanhood and what it means to be “pretty.” We were inspired not only by the cover and content of this book for our outfit interpretation but also by the author herself. Florence Given has some of the loudest and coolest styles we have ever seen, between her pink hair, her funky Gucci accessories, and her mind-bending intelligence we find ourselves in awe of her. See our outfit inspired by our favorite of Given’s looks here!
